Fire Chief Autumn Carlisle of the 70 West Fire Department works the scene of a two-vehicle accident Friday morning at 1583 Airport Road. Arkansas State Police Trooper 1st Class Corey Ray said Timothy Burton, 54, was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger at a high rate of speed when he crossed the centerline around 8:30 a.m. and struck a 2000 Chevrolet Astro van, driven by Danny Cogburn, 65, head-on. Cogburn, who was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated, was airlifted by LifeNet to CHI St. Vincent. Burton was transported by ambulance. Law enforcement agencies had to shut down Airport Road for a time to provide a landing zone for the helicopter. Ray said Burton and Cogburn had non-life threatening injuries.
