CONWAY -- Lakeside teachers Gina Tarbet, Kim McAllister and Linda Parker recently attended a workshop hosted by the Arkansas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association and the Arkansas Petroleum Council.

Twenty educators from across the state gathered in Conway for the Arkansas Energy Rocks! Teacher Energy Education Workshop.

In addition to classroom presentations on various aspects of oil and natural gas production, including regulatory oversight and the economic impacts, participating teachers spent a full day in the field exploring and touring well, drilling and hydraulic fracturing sites.

Personnel from the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton discussed the Petroleum Technology program available at their campus. Teachers learned about various career opportunities available in the industry.

"Our plan was to continue the successful effort we started last year with this program and we definitely met that goal -- sharing information about the importance of Arkansas energy production with educators," said Kelly Robbins, AIPRO Executive Vice President. "Attendees have taken the resources and experiences gained during their time with us back to their schools and community groups and can now provide accurate information about our state's oil and natural gas production community."

"Based on the comments and feedback from both the teachers and presenters, the workshop was again viewed as one of the best and most educational experiences the teachers have attended," said APC Executive Director Tom Parker. "We are proud to be providing useful information and resources that can be used in the classroom and elsewhere to facilitate a better understanding of the important role the oil and gas industry plays in terms of job creation, revenue, national security and the products essential to our everyday lives."
