Oppose disability cuts

Dear editor:

This morning, July 22, on KTHV news, I heard that people on Social Security Disability could face a cut in benefits next year. They stated the average amount received by a family was around $1,017 and they could see a $193 per month cut, close to my 20 percent prediction in a letter to the editor I submitted last January stating that the 114th Congress had passed new rules, which all new Congresses do, and one of the rules was to prohibit Congress from doing the routine transfer of money from the SS fund to SS Disability, something that's been done 11 times in the past. They share a common account. They did this knowing that the disability fund would need a transfer toward the end of 2016, which coincidentally is a presidential election year and this will make a huge campaign issue that SS is going broke.

The news threw this out there as a 10-second sound bite with no background as to why this is happening. Well now you know the "rest of the story." Call your congressman and ask them why they voted for this rule, because all four Republicans in Arkansas voted for this.
