Dear editor: Botched foreign policy

Dear editor:

In the March 2 edition of The Sentinel-Record, we were blessed yet again with a pearl of wisdom from Mr. Ray Warner. He is cautioning that we, as a nation, should not declare war on the Islamic State. On this I agree totally with Mr. Warner. I have never heard anyone from either side of the political spectrum suggest we declare war on Islam.

Our problems are with ISIS and they do not represent the entire Islamic State. They are a vicious, murderous splinter group that will butcher Muslims as readily as anyone else they consider to be infidels, and that term includes everyone who does not subscribe to their interpretation of the Islamic faith. You may better recall them if I remind you that this is the group that Mr. Obama referred to as junior varsity. Perhaps we should remember that virtually all cactuses are succulents, but not all succulents are cactuses.

As far as raising a coalition of nations to fight and destroy these terrorists, that certainly would be the ideal approach. However, the United States would no doubt have to lead and frankly, there are few world leaders that would trust, let alone follow Mr. Obama. Let's face the facts. He has botched every aspect of foreign policy he has touched, from the attack on Benghazi to Iran, Syria, Iraq, Israel and Russia, not to mention China and North Korea. His approach to our relationships with these nations has been unclear, indecisive and in the case of Syria, patently dishonest.

Mr. Obama has led this nation into a very difficult position. Our friends don't trust us and our adversaries do not fear us. Our next president, no matter who he or she may be, will certainly find themselves in a quagmire of galactic proportions created by inept politicians on both sides and led by Mr. Obama.
