So easy to discriminate

Dear editor:

Our state Legislature has passed a law to allow discrimination against some of our fellow citizens.

It is so easy to discriminate! To think "Them" and "Us." Often this is done in the name of what is written in the Bible. For example, there were slaves in the Bible, weren't there? So slavery must be condoned by God. But today we know that slavery is just wrong. Now when we see a sign saying "we reserve the right to deny service to anyone," we see it for what it is: an anachronism. We now have a law which protects the rights of all people to shop and eat where they want. Unfortunately, it took government to make this happen. Civilization slowly moves forward in fits and starts.

It will be the same with the city ordinance which has been proposed.

How to deal with unfairness? Stop being unfair. Change is hard for some people, but the proposed ordinance is the right one for our city to have. We are a town which welcomes tourists from all over. We want business from everyone.

If you are hiring, you want people who can do your work well, are honest and who have a good work ethic. This is what employers should be concerned about.

The state law is a bad law and it certainly does not speak for our family. We urge everyone to move forward and support the idea of being fair.
