Lady Lions overcome injuries, edge Malvern

MALVERN -- Jessieville's Lady Lions overcame Madison Hair's injury-related absence and star center Kellie Lampo's mid-game back injury Tuesday, beating Malvern 46-40 at Leopard Center.

Hair missed the game with an injured hamstring, Lampo leaving late in the first half after Malvern's Korey Walsh dove on top of the Jessieville junior on the floor with the ball. Lampo returned after halftime to finish with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Jessieville, up 6-5 by the end of the first quarter, warmed up to lead 26-16 at halftime. Ashley Brinkley, finishing with 13 points and four steals, keyed the Lady Lions (3-0) in the second with 11 points, hitting all six of her free-throw attempts, two of three field goals and one of two three-pointers.

Malvern pulled within 36-32 on an 8-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters. The Lady Leopards pulled within 44-40 but did not score for the last 1:07.

Walsh led the Lady Leopards with 15 points, all on threes. Sierra Smith added 11 points.

LHJH boys-Cabot Red

CABOT -- Lane Kersey made five three-point baskets in the third quarter as Lake Hamilton's junior boys pulled away from Cabot Red for a conference-opening victory Monday night, 56-26.

Kersey finished with 21 points on seven three-point baskets. Mondo Watkins added nine points and Brennon Gibson eight for the Wolves (2-0 overall).

Malik Brewer had five points for Lake Hamilton in the eighth-grade boys game, Cabot winning 40-10.

Both Lake Hamilton teams return to action Monday at Bryant.
