In defense of Democrats

Dear editor:

Once more, an attempt has been written to degrade the honor, the reputation and the principles of Democrats and the Democratic Party.

In no way do "Democrats mirror the Communist Party," as alleged by Lloyd Hoffman in his letter to the editor published on July 23. As for the legal immigrant actor, who peddles his support for Trump, he is not alone in being a legal immigrant. Believe it or not, Democrats are also legal immigrants, perhaps from many generations ago; otherwise, we would not be able to vote, would we?

For your edification, Mr. Hoffman, there is no "Democrat" Party. The proper political term is "Democratic Party." A Democrat is a single individual and I am a Democrat, by the way, and positively proud of it. We Democrats don't much care for slurs on our characters and our beliefs. Furthermore, I would venture to say that our Christian Democrats are just that: Christians. God doesn't judge his Christians by Republican Party or by Democratic Party memberships -- especially if they follow the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." (Common English phrasing) We are all God's children!

Yes, the Democratic Party has changed in recent years; the Republican Party has changed in recent years. Haven't you changed in recent years?

Since you seem to have time to write copious letters to the editor, the assumption would be that you are retired. If so, are you enjoying the Social Security benefit, a program initiated by Democratic legislation?

Somehow, I missed the chapter in history when the Communist Party "proceeded to quietly (sic) infiltrate that (Democratic) Party." Gee whiz, I have yet to meet a communist in all the years of Democratic meetings, rallies and contacts. Am I missing something?

What makes you think "Obama has a Marxist background?" Yours is an accusation, not a fact.

America is one of the safest and strongest nations; yes, we could definitely be much safer and stronger. If we stop arguing and blaming, we could be even safer and stronger! The Republican-led Congress has certainly done its best to stop implementation of strengthening legislation by saying "no" to bills brought for consideration. I, for one, resent paying the salaries of these elected officials who are not working to earn their generous incomes, pay raises and health care.

God forbid the election of Trump. God would be most unhappy that human beings in this country should be throwing offensive slings and arrows with the intent to demean their fellow citizens.

Vote for Hillary Clinton -- the qualified nominee.

Enough already.
