Wednesday Night Poetry features local poet

Coggin is a board member of the Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance, which is the sponsoring organization for Arts & The Park, and she leads the popular "Words and Wine" poetry workshops at Emergent Arts. She is a Teaching Artist for the Arkansas Arts Council, specializing in bringing poetry to young people. After receiving a BA in Poetry and Creative Writing from Texas A&M, Coggin was named "Teacher of the Year" while a middle school teacher in the Houston school system. She will conduct a workshop for writing Mother's Day poems at 1 p.m. May 8 at Emergent Arts.

Coggin's poems have been published in numerous literary journals and international anthologies. She was recently nominated for the coveted Push Cart Prize and has been nominated for the Bettering American Poetry 2015 prize.

Her Wednesday night presentation will feature selections from her newly released book "Wingspan" (Golden Dragonfly Press). Both "Wingspan" and her earlier book "Periscope Heart" will be available Wednesday night and can be purchased at http://www.kaicoggin.com.
