Annual tea party deemed success

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- During the third annual La Barcelona Tea Party, held recently at Barcelona Road Baptist Church, guest speaker Kelly Chapman presented a talk centered around ideas from her children's book, "Princess with a Purpose."

According to a news release, Chapman donned princess attire at the beginning of her presentation, but quickly got into the more serious illustrations of purpose. She reminded women that they become "children of royalty" when they establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and his father, God.

Chapman said that each individual's unique circumstances are not by happenstance, but are planned by God to give that person a special perspective and story. The purpose then becomes understanding God and finding out how to model his love, then sharing that love with others. Chapman also talked about the legacy each person should be planning, to help future generations find their own God-given purpose in life.

For musical entertainment, Doris and Kenneth Lancaster presented several songs, finishing with "Beulah Land," requested by several in the audience. She also presented slides showing her beautiful work of restoring and repurposing items found at yard and estate sales. Tea party participants were duly impressed with her imagination and art work.

Joan McMurry modeled a mink jacket she had purchased for a quarter during a local estate sale. Shelly Wagner also showed off some yard sale chairs she had recovered, and a matching set of nesting tables she painted to go with the chairs.

Wagner also presented outgoing Women's Ministry Director Kayla Ellison with a farewell gift, and introduced the new director, Kristin Whitaker.
