HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Besides dealing with outdated equipment and manuals in a post-Cold War setting, the Navy personnel portrayed in "Bunkered" must also figure out how to care for some aging carrier pigeons. This is just one of the many funny situations in the Hot Springs Village Players' next production.

Written by English playwright Lynn Brittney, who has permitted her work to be Americanized for the HSV staging, the story revolves around aging personnel who have been forgotten by the government they serve. They carry on their assigned duties just waiting for retirement, while hoping they can turn over the bunker before their equipment and the winged message carriers all expire.

In trying to update the facility, they run into major problems that complicate the situation, and finally get attention from the Marines.

Whether audience members have served in the military or not, everyone will get a chance to laugh at government protocol.

The play will have three showings, with evening performances at 7 p.m. June 9 and 10, and a 2 p.m. matinee on June 12, all in the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Way.

Tickets are $12 each, and can be purchased online at http://www.hsvpoa.org, or at the Ponce de Leon Center box office, 1101 DeSoto Blvd. If seats remain, tickets will be available at the door for $15.
