Fountain Lake alumni award more than $16K in scholarships

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- The Fountain Lake Alumni Association awarded $16,250 in scholarships to 22 graduates from the 2016 class at Fountain Lake Charter High School.

This year was the 10th in which alumni association has awarded scholarships. A total of $74,800 has been awarded to Fountain Lake graduates during that time.

Emily D. Johnson was awarded the $1,000 Sam Sargo Memorial Scholarship to attend Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. She plans to study English and Theatre Arts.

Kyle Crowder was awarded the $1,000 Ron Allen Vocation Scholarship to attend Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. He plans to study Mechanical Engineering.

Alexa Donley received a $1,000 scholarship from the alumni association to attend the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. She plans to study Psychology.

Four other $1,000 scholarships were awarded by past classes to Sarah Beard, 1956, Arkansas Tech University, Accounting; Lexie Hood, 1964, Arkansas Tech, Chemistry; Emily A. Johnson, 1971, Arkansas Tech, Health Information; and Barry Kohr, 1957, UCA, Political Science and Music.

A special $850 scholarship was generated by the students of Fountain Lake Elementary School. It was awarded to Veronica Tillery to attend National Park College. She plans to study Elementary Education.

Another 14 scholarships for $600 each were awarded by past classes to Dylan Long, 1947, Arkansas Tech, undecided; Anna-Claire Pope, 1951, 1952, 1953, UCA, Physical Therapy; Kaitlyn Davis, 1954, NPC, Secondary Education and Social Studies; Zoe Meeks, 1956, NPC, Nursing; Kevin Collins, 1959, OBU, Biology and Physical Therapy; Eric Beckham, 1961, University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Computer Science; Ethan Simpson, 1961, Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Biology; Caroline Skinner, 1963, University of Arkansas, Kinesiology; Courtney Wachsman, 1966, University of Texas at Arlington, Finance and Pre-Law; Jordyn Spears, 1967, Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Creative Media Production; Brooke Thomas, 1970, Arkansas Tech, Dental Hygiene; Calie VanDusen, 1974, Arkansas Tech, Physical Therapy and Special Education; and Vanessa Nobles, 1975, NPC, Nursing.
