Homeless man allegedly steals vehicle, arrested on drug charges

A homeless man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing his estranged wife's vehicle, and was later found in possession of drugs and firearms.

Reginald Larell Houston Jenkins, 21, who lists a "city streets" address, was taken into custody at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of a counterfeit substance, punishable by up to 10 years, and violation of a protection order, punishable by up to one year. He remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of zero bond and is set to appear Oct. 11 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, the victim said Jenkins, her estranged husband, came to her Lowery Street residence, threatened her and took her Chevrolet Equinox. Hot Springs police officers located Jenkins sitting in the vehicle in the parking lot at 1200 Central Avenue. Jenkins was taken into custody on warrants for third-degree domestic battery and failure to appear.

Once in custody, Jenkins allegedly asked his brother, who was also removed from the vehicle, to grab a bag in the floorboard of the back seat. An officer retrieved the bag from Jenkin's brother which was found to contain several plastic bags, 139.2 grams of a white powdery substance, 25 milligrams of Atenolol, 20 mg of Citalopram, a cellphone, seven rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition, seven rounds of 9 mm ammunition and one round of .45 caliber ammunition. A loaded 9 mm handgun was located underneath the driver's seat.
