Jessieville holds signing day event

JESSIEVILLE -- Almost two-thirds of the graduating class at Jessieville High School participated in the school's first Senior Signing Day April 12.

The event was planned in conjunction with a similar event at Fountain Lake Charter High School to have as many colleges and universities represented as possible. Seniors signed with their chosen community colleges, technical programs, private colleges, public universities and military branches in the Jessieville Sports Arena.

"This is a great opportunity to add a mini college fair to the Senior Signing Day event," said Chris Benson, high school counseling assistant and event coordinator. "It gives great exposure of these institutions to our younger students. Building interest and excitement at an early age helps to give them a step up on their futures."

Underclassmen at the high school and middle school students were invited to visit with the college and military representatives at the conclusion of the event.

"Our students have worked long and hard to get to this time in their lives," said Debbie Oswalt, high school counselor. "These are big decisions and they've done admirably. We had a fantastic turnout of the student body, grades 6-11 were all invited to attend, along with our signing seniors parents. It was a fun celebration and had our younger students looking towards the future."
