HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Computer Club of Hot Springs Village will hold its monthly meeting this week, and a demonstration on drones next week. The public is welcome to attend both, and there is no charge for either event.

The meeting is set for Thursday in Room 6 of the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Lane. A social time and computer help desk will take place from 6-6:30 p.m., immediately followed by the presentation.

This month's program will build on a previous one about home security. Included will be a basic overview of current technologies and the different features of each. As price is a consideration for most homeowners, speaker Dennis Simpson will discuss professionally installed systems, which start at $500, and the features they offer. David Kirsch will present on do-it-yourself systems, their features, and the reduced cost. Questions will also be addressed.

Keeping with the custom of presenting someone in the area who does home computer repair, technician Susan Gray will present the services she offers to those in need. Cross-trained in both Microsoft and Macintosh platforms, she has years of experience working with both from her business, SGrayMatter Computing Services.

The drone demonstration is slated for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 in the Coronado Center. The event will take place at both the helioport for the live demo, and in Room 5 for discussion and lunch. This is a brown bag lunch and membership is not required to take part.

Renee Steinpries and Kurt Martin will have two drones for demonstration -- a DJI Phantom 4 and a DJI Phantom 3 Professional, both with exceptional cameras, and they will take pictures from the drone as it flies over the center.

Other drone uses will be discussed, along with FAA rules. For those who have a drone, are thinking of getting one, or are just curious about them, this will be a event not to miss.
