Local Show Music Menagerie offers new lineup at new location

The Local Show Music Menagerie will host the first show at its new location Friday at the Life Center for the Performing Arts at 315 Park Ave.

Featured guests this month will include vocalists Sylvia Stems and Don Harrod, New Wave performance artists, dancers from Andrea's School of Dance, photography by Mary Buffington, Chana and Randy Caylor, Cassie Lea Ford and more.

"We are so excited. The Local Show Music Menagerie is almost two years old and even though we are so grateful for the time we spent at The Whittington Place, we are excited at the chance to grow. The location of the historic Vapors building on Park Avenue has nice padded seats, amazing sound system, spot lights and more room to grow. We hope to see all of our friends at our new location this month," Chana Caylor said in a news release.

Stems is a classically trained siren from the deep south who recently appeared at the local Baron's Ball and the seventh annual Spa City Sweethearts Ball. Old Hollywood glamour, a satin voice, and long legs are the hallmarks of this infamous chanteuse, the release said.

Harrod was born in a small town in south Arkansas and began singing at the age of 5 at school functions, clubs and local talent contests. He later moved to Mississippi and formed a band, Blue Denim, which played across Mississippi and Alabama. He moved to Hot Springs in the 90s and became a featured performer at Rhythms, a dinner dance club, and has been a favorite at other local places.

Performance group New Wave follows its mission to assist in the connection of artists of all types within the community who are seeking growth and development in their desired career by providing awareness to open opportunities that could be beneficial to them.

Buffington is a Hot Springs native and professional wedding and portrait photographer of 11 years. Although she specializes in several types of photography, photographing and empowering women is what "sets her heart on fire most."

Admission is $10 per person or $15 for two at the door. This will be the last month for the two for $15 deal. Next month guests will be able to purchase tickets online.
