A reportedly homeless man was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly beating his brother with a wooden board last week, breaking several ribs and collapsing both lungs.

Ernest John Clauson, 53, who lists no permanent address, was taken into custody just after 5:30 a.m. and charged with one count of second-degree domestic battery, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Clauson, who also had two warrants for failure to appear, was being held on bonds totaling $7,000 and is set to appear in Garland County District Court on Aug. 15.

According to the affidavit, on July 25, around 8 p.m., a Hot Springs police officer made contact with the victim who stated he was attacked by his brother, identified as Clauson, at his residence on Dickson Street.

He said Clauson "suddenly became disorderly for an unknown reason" and grabbed a two-by-four and started hitting him repeatedly all over his upper body and face, before suddenly stopping and fleeing the scene.

The victim was transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for injuries to his face, neck and back areas. He reportedly suffered numerous broken ribs, two collapsed lungs and other less severe medical issues as a result of the attack.

As of Thursday, the victim remained in the intensive care unit at CHI, the affidavit states.
