Three county schools win VB matches

CAMDEN -- Lake Hamilton won its second road volleyball match of the week Thursday in three games against Camden Fairview.

Jenny Peake had six kills and Allison Trantham five in the Lady Wolves' 25-13, 25-8, 25-21 victory. Jessalyn Heckel and Morgan Fincham each had four kills and Brooke Powell and Lanette Snyder three each for Lake Hamilton. Mason Aitken totaled 13 digs and Powell seven, Trantham with eight assists and Fincham five.

Lake Hamilton came off a 3-0 win at Malvern. The Lady Wolves have matches Tuesday at Bryant and Thursday at home against Texarkana.

Fountain Lake-Bryant

BRYANT -- Fountain Lake opened its volleyball season with a convincing nonconference win Thursday night at Bryant.

Behind 13 points and seven digs from Erin Graves, the Lady Cobras won 25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 25-16 over their Class 7A opponent. Senior Olivia Cox chipped in with 13 kills and four digs for Fountain Lake.

The Lady Cobras will compete in the Ladycat Classic tournament today at Mena before opening conference play Monday at Haskell Harmony Grove.

El Dorado-Lakeside

Coming off a five-game home loss to Bryant, Lakeside's volleyball team won in three games Thursday against visiting El Dorado.

Lyca Steelman had seven kills, Olivia Lawrence five and Abby Mahoney four in the 25-11, 25-4, 25-9 match. Hannah Whorton and Lawrence each had 11 assists.

The Lady Rams have road matches Tuesday with Malvern and Thursday with Magnolia.

* Jamie Broadway had eight kills, two blocks and five assists for Hot Springs in a 3-0 home win over White Hall Tuesday. Briana Aldaz had five kills and Xavia McCoy 13 digs in the 25-23, 26-24, 25-23 match.

Broadway tallied five kills and 11 digs in the Lady Trojans' loss to Magnolia on Thursday. Breunna Collins had five kills and Jaidan Thomas six blocks in the 25-20, 25-9, 25-22 match.

Hot Springs (1-1, 0-1 5A South) has home matches Tuesday against Little Rock Mills and Thursday against El Dorado.

High school golf

BISMARCK -- Mena defeated runner-up Fountain Lake by seven strokes in a high school golf match Thursday at DeGray Lake Resort State Park.

Mena's Austin Johnston had the lowest round, a 38. Senior Montana Carden and sophomore Zach Redifer each had a 43 to lead Fountain Lake.

Bauxite's Sophia Canale (46) led girls' scoring.

Fountain Lake teams go to Malvern for a nine-hole match Tuesday.
