Bullard named first-team Academic All-American

ARKADELPHIA -- Ouachita Baptist University senior and Lake Hamilton High School alum was named first-team Division II Academic All-American Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Bullard has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a Biology/Pre-Med major. She was among 10 student-athletes from NCAA Division II District 7 to be named to the Academic All-District Volleyball team in November.

"I am so excited to of been named to the 2017 First Team Academic All-America Volleyball Team," Bullard said Tuesday. "This recognition comes with a huge thank you to my coaches, teammates, family and friends, and the huge support group at Ouachita and in the Great American Conference. I am so blessed to get to share this recognition with those who have always pushed me to be my best."

The Division II Academic All-America program is financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for 2017-18. CoSIDA announced seven first team, seven second team and seven third team selections Tuesday.

The other first team selections are Anna Burton, senior, Newman University, 4.0 GPA, Nursing; Emily Conlin, Anderson University, sophomore, 4.0 GPA, Business-Computer Information Systems; Catherine Ferragonio, senior, Clarion University, 4.0 GPA, Rehabilitation Sciences/Pre-OT; Lauren Hockstethler, senior, Mars Hill University, 4.0 GPA, Chemistry; Danielle Waedekin, senior, University of Missouri-St. Louis, 4.0 GPA, Nursing; and Erica Whiteaker, junior, Lincoln Memorial University, 4.0 GPA, Biology/Pre-Med. Whiteaker was named CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year.

Sixteen of the 21 members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Volleyball Team have a perfect 4.0 GPA. The only repeat pick on the 2017 squad is California Baptist University senior outside hitter Lauren Hackett. Hackett is a second team choice for the second year in a row.

Bullard finished her final regular season with 305 kills, a .293 hitting percentage, 78 blocks, 77 digs and 23 service aces. She recorded 15 kills, five digs and one ace against Oklahoma Baptist in the Great American Conference tournament at Bank of the Ozarks Arena.

Bullard was named Second-Team All-GAC this season with two junior and sophomore teammates. She received the Crafton Tull Elite Scholar Athlete award from the Great American Conference after the 2016-17 season for the second straight year. She is now with OBU for her final season of college basketball.
