Bomb threat prompts lockdown of LH school

PEARCY -- A bomb threat received at Lake Hamilton Middle School shortly before 11 a.m. Monday prompted a lockdown of the middle school campus while emergency personnel searched all the buildings, and students were evacuated to another location.

The Garland County Sheriff's Department, Department of Emergency Management, Arkansas State Police, Hot Springs Police Department, LifeNet, Garland County constables, 70 West Fire Department and Lake Hamilton security assisted in the lockdown.

The HSPD's bomb K-9 made a systematic internal sweep of the middle school while GCSD deputies performed an external sweep of the building.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., the search was completed and students were escorted back to the buildings and fed lunch.

"The safety and security of our students is the No. 1 priority of the Lake Hamilton School District. Thank you for your patience and understanding while law enforcement has handled this situation," a LHSD Facebook post said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call sheriff's investigators at 501-622-3690.
