Army National Guard to perform at JazzFest outdoor concert

The 26th Hot Springs JazzFest will open its Jazz in the Streets outdoor concert at 11 a.m. Sept. 2 with the 106th Army National Guard. The festival will run from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.

Formed in 1989, the 106th Army National Guard participated in the Spanish-American War, served in France during World War I and served in Seward, Alaska, during World War II. The 106th was also a part of the desegregation crises at Little Rock's Central High and led the inaugural parade for former President Bill Clinton in 1993.

JazzFest is sponsored by the Hot Springs Jazz Society and presented in venues spread throughout Hot Springs National Park with entrance ranging from free to $50. Also featured at the free outdoor concert is New Breed Brass Band from New Orleans, New York City saxophonist Allen Won, and the Latin jazz group Calle Soul. Artists from Arkansas and the nation are scheduled for concerts including an intimate concert in the historic Ohio Club with the Clyde Pound Trio and the unique Classical & Jazz Blow Out with a surprising combination of jazz by Anything That Moves and classical music by Arkansas Brass quintet.
