The Leadership Hot Springs/Partnership with Youth Program recently celebrated the graduation of Class 22 and nominations are now open for Class 23.

The graduation ceremony for the program was recently held in National Park Medical Center's Fordyce Room. The program is an extension of the adult Leadership program and is directed and overseen by the Leadership Hot Springs Board of Directors. The Partnership with Youth program is a student leadership program offering participants an opportunity to learn more about themselves and their community.

Call Fred Leonard, registrar, at 501-520-8766 or email nominations to [email protected] prior to July 1. Applications are sent upon receipt of nomination and must be returned by July 1. Required information for nomination includes a student's name, school, grade in the 2017-18 school year, address, city, state, ZIP code, email address and parents' names.

Members of Class 22 were Utah Aitken, Katie Ashling, Christian Boekhout, Hazel Bonilla, Antoniesha Burns, Sam Capps, Avery Catlett, Carter Chapman, Cathleen Criss, Chloe Davis, Callie Dodd, Darby Dunn, Noah Eskew, Joan Garcia, Raechal Garner, Chad Graves, Austin Johnson, JaKeith Johnson, Kye Masino, Emma McKnight, Dana Pumphrey, Haylea Reynolds, Jon Rowe, Bernice Santillan, Braden Sarver, Jacey Scott, Sophe Sligh, Lauren Terry, Janitza Toyos, Ethan Waycaster, Kate Webb and Logan Wilcox.

Class members participate in leadership skills development activities, meet and learn from leaders from many segments of the community and meet other student leaders from other schools who share concerns, hopes and dreams for the greater Hot Springs area. The program is meant to develop group and personal individual leadership skills through participation and instill a sense of community service within participants and encourage civic engagement of all participants.

The program consists of an mandatory overnight "get acquainted and work session" retreat at Camp Winnamocka in Arkadelphia, six youth leadership days and graduation day in May 2018. Participants are expected to attend all of each session if possible. An orientation meeting will be held in early September to explain the program in depth.

Tuition for the program is $175 and must be paid prior to the Winnamocka retreat. A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available for students who need financial support.

Class size is limited and participants are selected by the Selection Committee of the Leadership Board of Directors. Classes generally consist of junior and senior students and a diverse class is sought by organizers.
