Women's Build 'thanks'

Dear editor:

Garland County Habitat for Humanity recently held its third annual Women's Build during May 16-20. From swinging a hammer, to landscaping a yard, to painting a room, this event encourages women of all skill levels to participate in building a Habitat for Humanity home. With over 200 volunteers on hand, we were able to construct two houses in the dry during the weeklong event.

This event would not be possible without the help of several community partners. We would like to thank Hot Springs Village, Lowe's and First Security Bank for sponsoring our 2017 Women's Build. Another thank you goes to the local restaurants that provided breakfast and lunch to our volunteers each day -- Chick-fil-A, The Hotel Hot Springs & Spa, Fat Jacks, LongHorn Steakhouse, Red Light Roastery, Kollective Coffee+Tea, Spa City Donuts and ReMax Realty for providing pizza. The amazing food kept our volunteers going!

We would also like to thank the following businesses, organizations and community leaders for their support during the week -- St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church, Ouachita Children's Center, Relyance Bank, Mayor Pat McCabe and City Manager David Frasher. Furthermore, we would like to recognize Leah MacPhee and Rhonda Harrington for co-chairing this event. We also appreciate Janis Johnson, who donated the land for these two houses.

A huge thank you goes to our one and only Bob Christians! This week was a success due in part to his construction and organization skills. We appreciate the hundreds of behind-the-scene hours he put into this event.

Finally, this week would not have been possible without our volunteers! Thank you to everyone who took time out of their week to help build two new homes for deserving families. We would be remiss not to thank our group of regular, dedicated volunteers who brought their skills to the Women's Build -- Bob McCabe, Paul Grasse, Leah MacPhee, Roger Rehfeldt, Mary Rehfeldt, Charlie Smith, John Tidquist, Jerry Thompson, Dave Witchger, George Bollier, Sandy Young, Jim Dooley and Steve George.

We are blessed to live in such a caring community. With your help, we will continue to improve the lives of Garland County -- one house at a time.
