ASMSA student recognized in Clinton Center contest

Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts student Jarrell Imamura was selected as one of two runners-up in the William J. Clinton Presidential Center's annual "Ideas Matter" scholarship essay contest.

A panel of judges selected Taylor Scifres, of Bryant High School, as the winner and recipient of a $2,500 college scholarship. Arkansas juniors and seniors were invited to submit an essay of at least 500 words addressing increasing opportunity for girls and women, improving childhood health, creating economic opportunity and growth, or helping communities address race relations.

Imamura wrote about creating a nonprofit to utilizes the resources available in high school auto shops to recondition donated used cars and give them to young, single mothers. Zelda Engler-Young, of Conway High School, was also selected as a runner-up.
