Good choice for mayor

Dear editor:

I was thrilled to see that Pat McCabe applied to be mayor. In the nearly 40 years that I've lived in Hot Springs, he's the most qualified and sensible person to ever run for the office. I was amazed that he didn't win in the last election -- he lost by 40 votes.

For the record, Pat McCabe and I are not buddies. We know each other because we've both been involved in projects to better this town. When we see each other, we shake hands, chat a bit and that's about it.

I was one of the founders of the Downtown Merchant's Association, I've owned two businesses in the Spa City and have been a part of Hot Springs' arts community since it began to bloom in the 1980s. Over those years and through those experiences, I've come to know Pat McCabe as a sensible man with a fierce love for this town.

If the city board does not pick him to be mayor, they will have made a big mistake!
