Lupus benefit races scheduled May 20

The 22nd Norma Lampert Memorial Lupus Springers 5k and Walk to End Lupus are scheduled May 20 with an 8 a.m. start at Mid-America Park in Hot Springs.

Entry fee is $25 before May 18 and $30 afterward with $2.50 extra for a commemorative T-shirt over size X large.

Runners, walkers and wheelchair participants compete for trophies in the 5k. The racewalk is noncompetitive and does not offer trophies.

Online registration can be made at www.lupus-arkansas.com. Lupus patients are requested to have designated racewalkers. Volunteers also are welcome.

Dallas golfer's 66 leads

Open qualifier at HSCC

Professional golfer Rob Hudson, of Dallas, took medalist honors in local U.S. Open qualifying Tuesday at Hot Springs Country Club.

A former Ole Miss player, Hudson fired a 6-under-par 66 on the Arlington course with nine-hole scores of 34 and 32. He has missed the cut in five APT Tour events this year after earning $19,121 from 12 tournaments (10 made cuts) last year, finishing third in Houma, La.

Hudson and the next four finishers Tuesday advance to sectional qualifying for the national tournament in June in Erin, Wis.

Zachary Bouchou, of Forrest, Va., finished second at 68 with Eric Ricard (Shreveport, La.), Jordan Russell (Bryan, Texas) and Noah Tullos (Paragould) tied at 69. Tied at 70 were Charlie Hollands (Dallas), Matthew Jennings (Prairie City, La.) and Tanner Napier (Paris, Texas).

Ricard is an LSU senior and played on the Tigers' NCAA championship team in the 2014-15 season. Tullos is a senior at UALR.

Henderson State golfer Mauricio Lira and Arkansas State's Seth Garner, a Hot Springs native and Lakeside High graduate, tied for 12th at 72. Brett Taunton, of Hot Springs, and Lakeside High product Zachary O'Riley tied at 73, O'Riley representing Arkansas Tech in the recent National Collegiate Club Golf Association tournament at HSCC.

Arkansas State Golf Association assisted HSCC with running the United States Golf Association-sponsored event Tuesday.

past HSU in tourney

AXTELL, Neb. -- Arkansas Tech moved up the leaderboard and Henderson State dropped back in the second round of the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Super Regional men's golf tournament here Tuesday.

Arkansas Tech is tied for eighth at 10-under 566, improving by 12 strokes with a second-round 277. Putter Srinoon shot a 5-under 67, the second-lowest round by a Wonder Boy this season, and tied for 21st at 4-under 140. Luke Cornett followed with a 3-under 69 while Austin Smith (70) and Jonathan Echberg (71) also went under par.

The Wonder Boys are 16 strokes behind leader Central Missouri (550), the top four teams after today's final round advancing to the national championship. Lindenwood is second at 556, Tiffin third at 560 and Grand Valley State, Indianapolis and Southwestern Oklahoma tied for fourth at 562.

Henderson State dropped six spots to 13th place with a second-round 287. Senior Price Murphree, of Camden, joined Srinoon at 140 after a second-round 71 with five birdies. Reddie junior Tait Darby had a 3-under 69, moving up 20 spots to a tie for 69th at 1-over 145.

HSU golfers Drew Greenwood (75) and Cameron McRae (74) are tied for 78th at 146. The Lakeside High graduates helped the Reddies outduel Arkansas Tech in the Great American Conference tournament last month at Hot Springs Country Club.

* In Sioux Falls, S.D., Henderson's Sarah Wright moved within one stroke of the Arkansas Tech leader in the second round of the NCAA Super Region 3 women's tournament.

A junior from Fayetteville, Wright had a 2-over 73 for a 36-hole of 149. The Reddies are seventh after two rounds at 317_629, Arkansas Tech (608) leading by eight strokes over Augustana behind sophomore Pia Nunbhakdi (73_148). Tech's Avery Struck is tied for fifth at 77_152.

The top three teams, along with the top three individuals not on those teams, advance to the NCAA Division II nationals in Findlay, Ohio.
