The John Percifull Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored three area high school seniors as DAR Good Citizens.

Each student selected by their school must submit an application with their academic resumes, GPAs, a list of their school, church and community activities, and an essay on a surprise focus question with the winner earning a chance to compete in the state essay contest and receiving the John Percifull scholarship. All receive a certificate and pin to honor their DAR qualities of dependability, service to others, leadership and patriotism.

Representing Lake Hamilton High School is Halle Teeter, daughter of Monda Parlsey and Denny Teeter. She is student council president, a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in business at the University of Arkansas.

From Mountain Pine High School is Callie Wright, daughter of Chris and Jennifer Wright. She is valedictorian, class and student council president and an Arkansas Girls State delegate and plans to major in biology at Arkansas Tech University.

Katie Welch from Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts is a member of the National Honor Society, captain of the girls varsity track team, and co-captain of Robotics Club and International Science and Engineering Fair Research Project. She has applied at the United States Naval Academy, Texas A&M, and University of Arkansas, but her goal is the NROTC program at Georgia Tech to major in physics and engineering.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage society whose members prove their ancestors fought as patriots during the Revolutionary War.

John Percifull Chapter meets the first Thursday of the month, September through May. Any woman 18 or older who can prove her ancestor may become a member. Contact Regent Cindy Smith at 617-2396 for more information.
