A Hot Springs man was charged with underage DUI after his vehicle left the roadway and landed in a ditch late Tuesday night.

Hunter Lee Keener, 19, who lists a Crystal Hill Road address, was taken into custody at around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Airport and Brunswick roads and charged with misdemeanor charges of underage DUI, punishable by up to one year in jail, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

He was later released on $1,000 bond and is set to appear Nov. 20 in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garland County sheriff's Deputy Josh Parker arrived at the intersection of Airport and Brunswick in reference to a one-vehicle wreck and located a red Ford F-150 in a ditch.

The driver, later identified as Keener, reportedly told Parker he drove into the ditch while attempting to avoid colliding with a deer, but Parker allegedly noticed a strong odor of intoxicants on his person. Parker asked Keener if he had been drinking, and Keener allegedly admitted to having a single beer earlier in the evening.

Keener failed to pass any portion of the standardized field sobriety tests and was placed into custody.
