Chili cook-off, Christmas lights to warm hearts

The holiday season gets into full swing on Monday with savory chili and colorful Christmas lights during the 15th Annual Tom Daniel Holiday Chili Cook-Off in downtown Hot Springs.

The cook-off will begin at 4:30 p.m. Monday, rain or shine, at the Exchange Street Parking Plaza. The cost is $5 for all-you-can-eat chili.

Exchange Street, from the plaza entrance to Mountain Street, will be closed from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday for the annual cook-off and lighting ceremony.

Funds raised during the event, which is hosted by the Downtown Association of Hot Springs, will support the city's Deck the Park Challenge during the holiday season.

Ned Perme, a meteorologist with KATV Channel 7 in Little Rock, will be on hand to light the downtown Christmas lights following the cook-off.

The annual event was renamed last year in honor of Tom Daniel, one of its founders and a longtime civic and business leader in Hot Springs who died Nov. 9, 2016, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
