Atkins helps No. 2 Texas beat LSU

LAS VEGAS -- Ariel Atkins scored 17 points and Jatarie White added 14 points to lead No. 2 Texas to a 75-66 win over LSU in the Las Vegas Shootout on Friday.

Atkins, who had four steals, made six of her eight attempts from the field.

Lashann Higgs added 13 points while Brooke McCarty had 11 points for the Longhorns (4-0).

Chloe Jackson scored as season-high 23 points and Raigyne Louis added 20 for LSU (2-30).

The Longhorns scored the game's first six points and jumped to a 16-4 advantage five minutes into the game. LSU responded with a 9-0 run, but never came closer as the Longhorns led 41-28 at intermission. The lead never got below nine in the second half.

No. 3 South Carolina 78, Rutgers 68

ESTERO, Fla. -- A'ja Wilson scored a career-high 33 points, Lindsey Spann added 17 and No. 3 South Carolina survived a serious test before beating Rutgers on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Wilson went 15 for 17 from the foul line for the Gamecocks (5-0), who won their 16th consecutive game going back to last season.

Rutgers was within 63-60 midway through the fourth, but South Carolina finished on a 15-8 run. Wilson topped her previous career-best by a point; she had 32 against Maryland on Nov. 13.

Tyler Scaife scored 20 for Rutgers (4-1), which got 13 from Tekia Mack and 10 from Jazlynd Rollins.

Wilson grabbed 10 rebounds for the Gamecocks, who were just far more effective at the rim than the Scarlet Knights. South Carolina shot 17 for 25 on layups; Rutgers was 13 for 30.

No. 4 Louisville 115, Murray State 51

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Kylee Shook scored a career-high 21 points and fellow reserve Bionca Dunham also had career highs of 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead No. 4 Louisville to a rout of Murray State on Friday.

The Cardinals (6-0) scored a school record for points in the victory.

Sam Fuehring scored a layup four seconds into the game to give Louisville a lead it would not relinquish, and by the time the second quarter started, coach Jeff Walz had given playing time to all 11 of his healthy players.

The reserves, who combined for 66 points, led the way for the Cardinals, who were up 57-22 at halftime. All 11 Cardinals got on the court by the start of the second quarter, and nine of them scored in the first quarter.

Louisville outrebounded its in-state foes by a 58-26 margin and forced 26 turnovers. The Racers (1-4) shot just 29.5 percent for the game.

Twice previously, the Cardinals had scored 109 points in a game. That last time occurred against Coastal Carolina on Dec. 18, 1996

No. 5 UCLA 64, Kansas State 55

LAS VEGAS -- Monique Billings had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 5 UCLA over Kansas State on Friday at the South Point Shootout.

Kennedy Burke and Kelli Hayes each added 12 points for the Bruins (4-1). UCLA leading scorer Jordin Canada got into early foul trouble and finished with just six points, five rebounds and five steals.

Kayla Goth led Kansas State (4-1) with a season-high 19 points. Goth was 9 of 15 from the field.

After only leading 31-28 early second half, the Bruins outscored the Wildcats the rest of the way in the third quarter, 17-9.

Kansas State struggled shooting from everywhere, including 19 of 54 (35 percent) from the field. The Bruins were 21 of 56 for 38 percent.

No. 7 Mississippi State 90, Columbia 54

CANCUN, Mexico -- Victoria Vivians scored 23 points while Teaira McCowan added 21 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 7 Mississippi State rout Columbia 90-54 on Friday at the Cancun Challenge.

Mississippi State (5-0) only led after the first quarter and by eight at the half before blowing the game open in the third.

The Lady Bulldogs were up 50-39 midway through the third before McCowan and Vivians took over. The 6-foot-7 McCowan scored the first seven points during a 16-4 run and Vivians made consecutive 3-pointers for a 66-43 advantage.

The lead ballooned to 37 in the fourth.

Camille Zimmerman had 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead Columbia (2-4).

No. 11 West Virginia 75, Drexel 42

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Teana Muldrow scored 25 points, Kristina King had 10 points and nine rebounds, and No. 11 West Virginia beat Drexel on Friday to conclude the relocated Paradise Jam.

Muldrow was 10 of 16 from the floor as the Mountaineers shot 56 percent overall, including 6 of 8 3-pointers. She reached 19 points early in the third as WVU led 44-25.

Chania Ray added 11 points for West Virginia (5-0) and Katrina Pardee chipped it 10. Ashley Jones had six of the Mountaineers' 20 assists.

Ray made all three of her 3-pointers in the first half and the Mountaineers had an 18-point lead by halftime. King capped the third quarter with a 3-point play and it was a 33-point advantage early in the fourth.

Kelsi Lidge led Drexel (2-3) with four 3-pointers and 16 points. The Dragons were held to 30-percent shooting and turned it over 24 times.
