Winless Hope brought a potent air game to Austin Field, where Lakeside awaited Friday night with a balanced attack.
Lakeside ran for five touchdowns and passed for a sixth, all in the first half, of a 42-23 victory that kept the Rams unbeaten in 5A-South and the Bobcats winless in their last 18 games.
Dupree Swanson set the tone with a 51-yard touchdown run on the third play from scrimmage. Michael James ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter and Swanson for a second score in the second quarter. Swanson gashed the Bobcats for 126 yards on jsut eight carries.
"I was excited about tonight," Lakeside head coach Jared McBride said, his team now 4-3 overall and, at 4-0, tied with Watson Chapel for first place in 5A-South. "We had a good game plan. Our kids executed it well."
Richard Gaston ran for a touchdown and Taylor Gilham passed to Torin Davis for another, setting the halftime score at 42-7.
Besides a safety, Hope scored on three touchdown passes from Hunter Heliums to Nate Carter.
Of Carter, coach Jay Turley said, "He's gonna compete and give me everything he's got. What a great night to have as a senior."
Lakeside goes Friday to De Queen, where two years ago the Rams won a game postponed to Monday after a bus accident en route to Sevier County. The Leopards are 4-3 overall, 3-1 in conference, after edging Camden Fairview 24-21 last week. De Queen stunned Class 4A rival Nashville 49-42 in Week 2 and won 28-8 at Hot Springs in Week 6.
"We've gotta prepare well and be ready for a good, solid football team," McBride said.
