FORT SMITH -- "Bonfire," a solo show by Hot Springs artist Barbara Cade, is set to open at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum on Nov. 3.

"Bonfire" is a collection of 21 works that express her growing concern for the Earth, a concern that started burning in 1971 when she lived on the West Coast and clear-cutting trees and the destruction of the spotted owl habitat were big news, a news release said.

Cade's early works were focused on "corporate greed" in general, the release said, but the works beginning in 2015 are "Hair Hats," documenting specific contemporary environmental accidents that pollute water and air. Two of the "Hair Hats" highlight Arkansas accidents at Mayflower and Siloam Springs.

In 2016, one of Cade's early works won first prize in the Annual Invitational at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum. Her 2015 piece "Animus River Spill" was purchased for the RAM's permanent collection. Part of the first prize is this show. "Bonfire" runs through Feb. 8.
