SAU announces summer grads

MAGNOLIA -- A handful of students from area schools were among 230 students honored with undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Southern Arkansas University summer commencement ceremony on Aug. 4 at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.

SAU recognized 199 candidates from the School of Graduate Studies and 42 undergraduates from the university's four academic colleges.

Area graduates were Amber Boyett, Amity; Vivi Bradshaw, Bismarck; Taylor Duke, Pearcy; Annie Scott, Mount Ida; and Sydney Smith, Mount Ida.

Boyett was a Library Media major and graduated with a Master of Education.

Bradshaw was a Library Media major and graduated with a Master of Education.

Duke was a Clinical and Mental Health Counseling major and graduated with a Master of Science.

Scott was a Library Media major and graduated with a Master of Education.

Smith was a Library Media major and graduated with a Master of Education.

The commencement speaker for the undergraduate and graduate ceremonies was Magnolia High School Superintendent John "Skipper" Ward, an SAU alum. Ward has 17 years of experience in education as a teacher, elementary principal and superintendent
