Flute ensemble to present concert, honor graduates

The Hot Springs Flute Ensemble, under the direction of Kristin Grant, will present a concert of popular dance music through the centuries at 3 p.m. April 15 at Hope Church, 838 Shady Grove Road.

Admission is free; a freewill donation will be taken. Graduating Julian Herring Scholars will be honored at the event; Rebecca Irwin and Makayla Lovell are third-year scholars, Kajal Bharany is a five-year scholar, and Sarah-Marie Linneman has been in the ensemble for eight years.

The ensemble is now accepting applications from junior or senior high students, public or home-schooled, for the Julian Herring Scholarship for their 2018-19 season. Scholars receive free tuition for ensemble membership, mentorship by more advanced players, free music, and free instrument loans when playing "big flutes." Submission deadline is May 1 with auditions held on May 5.

Performers in the spring concert are: piccolo, Lynn Clardy; C flute, Donna Toler, Payton Teague, Irwin, Priscilla Wacaster, Debbie Reed, Robin Williams, Harriet Reynolds, Leoni Bermejo, Janet Moore, Deonne Carson, Janis Hopper, Josie Carson, Bharany, Claude Smith, Marilyn Coffman, Ann Weik and Hal Thompson; alto flutists, Sara Ferril, Lovell, Ann Smedley, Adeline Mogovan, and Steve Bonner; bass flutists, Flowers, Beverly Hegwood, Leah Venable and Rhonda Hall; and contra bass flutists, Linneman and Aishani Singh.
