Governor to address

HSV Republican groups

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- HSV Republican Women and Republicans of HSV announced that Gov. Asa Hutchinson will speak at their 9:45 a.m. Thursday meeting in the Ouachita Building at the Ponce De Leon Center on Desoto Boulevard. Members, friends, men and candidates are welcome.

Hutchinson will give an update on projects and issues in the state.

Free Book Adoption

at Champion college

Champion Christian College, 600 Garland Ave., will host a Book Adoption event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Its library will be giving books away, some of which have copyright dates in the 1800s. Donations will be accepted. Call 623-2272 for information.

Lupus Awareness

Month events planned

Lupus Foundation of Arkansas Inc. is supporting three days of Lupus Awareness Month events to be held in the Arkansas Department of Health Auditorium, 4815 W. Markham St., Little Rock, May 3-5. RSVP by calling 525-9380 or 800-294-8878. The events are free and open to the public.

From 8-9 a.m. May 3 will be Grand Rounds on Lupus.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 will be the In Living Color Lupus Seminar. Speakers will include a rheumatologist, and lupus patients and family and friends. Continuing education for providers will be pursued. Lunch will be served.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5 will be a Train-the-Trainer Lupus Workshop.

Computer Club of HSV

announce classes

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Two classes and one free help session will be offered by the Computer Club of Hot Springs Village the week of April 17.

Tuesday's class will be on Google Contacts, Email and Calendar and Wednesday's on Facebook. The classes meet from 1-4 p.m. in Room 5 of the Coronado Center, where computers are provided for student use. For fees and to register online, visit http://www.cchsv.org.

The free session is a Drop-in Help session on Thursday at Village Church of Christ on Balboa. Bring any computer concerns you may have.

Lawyer discusses Issue 1

at DPGC meeting

The Democratic Party of Garland County will host guest speaker Jesse Gibson at at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the DPGC Headquarters, 608 W. Grand Ave. Socialize begins at 5 p.m. All are welcome.

The president-elect of the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association, Gibson will talk about Issue 1, "The Arkansas Cap on Attorney's Fee and Damages Awards in Lawsuits Amendment," which will appear on the ballot in November.

Gibson earned his law degree, with honors, from the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law and was a member of the UALR Law review. He founded the Gibson Law Firm PLLC in Little Rock and is licensed to practice in Arkansas and the U.S. Federal Court system. Gibson was named "Outstanding Young Trial Lawyer" in 2005 by the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association.
