United Way gears up for Day of Caring

United Way of the Ouachitas will host the 12th annual Day of Caring on April 26.

Volunteers will begin projects at 8:45 a.m. after a kickoff breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center at First United Methodist Church.

This event was established in 2006 in Garland County to promote the spirit of volunteerism, increase awareness of local human service organizations and demonstrate how people working together for the common good can accomplish great things, a news release said.

United Way of the Ouachitas brings together nearly 150 volunteers each year who contribute to the efforts of the campaign and to highlight the results of the organization's program investments.

United Way matches local volunteers in the Ouachita region to nonprofit organizations to complete tasks such as gardening, general cleaning and repairs, landscaping, painting and preparing meals. Volunteers give their time and energy to the area's nonprofits while promoting workplace unity, building morale and showing leadership in the community.
