A Royal man was arrested early Friday for allegedly pointing a gun at his wife while he was intoxicated.

Douglas Shawn Hunt, 56, of 749 Timberlake Drive, was taken into custody at his home shortly after 3:30 a.m. Friday and charged with a felony count of aggravated assault on a family or household member, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Hunt was being held on $2,500 bond and appeared via video Friday morning in Garland County District Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. Judge Ralph Ohm issued a court order barring Hunt from contact with his wife and a felony review hearing to determine if the charge will be bound over to Garland County Circuit Court is set for Sept. 24.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 3 a.m., Garland County sheriff's Deputy Tyler Wagner responded to the Timberlake Drive in reference to a domestic disturbance and made contact with a woman who was crying and said her husband, who was extremely intoxicated, came to her camper where she had been staying and beat on the door.

She said she looked out the window and saw Hunt raise his hand and point a .45-caliber pistol at her. She said Hunt was yelling at her and told her he had seen her with her "boy toy" earlier that day.

She said she called 911 "in fear for her life," then saw Hunt leave and walk back toward the house. Cpls. Jon Lane and Jeremy Simpson located Hunt inside the house behind the camper.

Hunt told deputies he got into an argument with his wife while he was carrying his gun, which he said was now in a dresser. Deputies located a loaded Ruger .45-caliber pistol inside the residence and took Hunt into custody.
