A Hot Springs man was arrested late Saturday after he allegedly attempted to break into a neighbor's home while intoxicated and then fought with Garland County sheriff's deputies.

Brandon Travis Phillips, 29, of 432 Ranch Estates Road, was taken into custody at his home around 10:40 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault and two counts of second-degree battery, felonies punishable by up to six years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and public intoxication.

Phillips, who is on parole, was being held on $9,000 bond and appeared Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, deputies received a call regarding someone reportedly attempting to force entry into a home on Ranch Estates Road. When deputies arrived, they made contact with a woman who allegedly stated a man walked onto her property while she was home alone and began beating on her front door.

She told deputies she looked out the window and observed a man, later identified as Phillips, hitting her front door. At that point, she called 911 and Phillips reportedly made his way around the side of the house and attempted to remove the screen from her bedroom window.

After causing damage to the screen, Phillips then attempted to open the sliding glass door to the woman's bedroom. Deputies arrived after Phillips had left, but reportedly located him returning to her property a short time later.

Phillips allegedly came onto the property asking, "What's going on?" Phillips was reportedly covered in sweat and appeared to be intoxicated. When asked how he became so sweaty, Phillips reportedly stated he had "a fast metabolism" and had been watching television at his house all evening.

Phillips speech was reportedly slurred, loud, and profane, according to the affidavit. While Phillips spoke to one of the deputies on scene, the other reportedly signaled to arrest Phillips. Phillips allegedly resisted arrest and after an "extended fight" with deputies, he was taken into custody.

The woman positively identified Phillips as the man who beat on her door and windows and he was informed of his charges and transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment of minor injuries sustained during his resistance to arrest.
