Dear editor:
Saturday’s article about Magic Springs being fined for labor violations disturbed me. First, Magic Springs is a great employer and a mainstay of our local economy. As a teenager, I was thrilled to get my first job there. They employ a lot of young people, and it was a great environment to work in.
So it’s troubling to me that they were fined over 13K by the federal government because, as crazy as it sounds, young people wanted to work. In this day and age of social programs, government handouts, abject laziness on the part of teens, here we have young people wanting to work, and because they worked a couple of extra hours, or past prescribed times, the park was penalized. Has anyone from this federal department taken a look around our country recently? You can’t get adults to work. So you penalize an employer because they create an environment in which teenagers (who by and large are lazy, dumb, and feel entitled) actually want to work?
Shame on the government, and if I were Magic Springs, I would tell them to take their fine and stick it where the roller coasters don’t shine.
