Sheriff's Reserve unit releases June hours

Garland County sheriff's Reserve Capt. Hank Nowak reports that reserve deputies worked a total of 456 hours in June, including 2,229 hours in the patrol division, writing seven reports, making three arrests and backing up regular deputies on 11 occasions.

"A new deputy came on board and is in the process of beginning his probationary period and training," Nowak said, noting two other new applicants are in the process of being considered.

"Our park patrols, in accordance with the U.S. Forest Service, are in full swing and will continue through Labor Day," he said.

The unit, which is comprised of unpaid volunteers, provides support to the sheriff's department's different divisions throughout the year.
