Wallace's legacy

An open letter to the Hot Springs community:

Many of you have been positively impacted by the work of Parks & Trails Director Jean Wallace. Colorful landscaped medians, hanging baskets and public spaces, public sculptures gracing the city, 17 city parks with more underway, countless recreational programs, inspiring Christmastime downtown light displays and, of course, the magnificent Hot Springs Creek Greenway all create the "quality of space" that has been Jean's hallmark. Her leadership, innovation and thoughtful design have inspired communitywide respect for the natural environment, influencing construction projects and shaping advance planning. After 29 years of service, her legacy is evident throughout our beautiful city and her impact will be felt for years to come.

Those who'd like to stop by her retirement reception and wish her "Happy Trails" are more than welcome to do so. It will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, June 29, in the board chambers at City Hall, 133 Convention Blvd.

Mark your calendars -- we hope to see you on June 29.
