Man killed in 70 east wreck

A Hot Springs man died from injuries he suffered in a collision with two trucks Tuesday afternoon on Highway 70 east just west of the rest area, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary.

Charles Gold, 79, of Hot Springs, driving a 2002 Lexus, was westbound on Highway 70 shortly before 3:30 p.m. when he reportedly veered across the center turn lane into the eastbound lane, where he collided with the left rear of a 2015 International truck, causing the Lexus to rotate.

A westbound 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck then collided with the passenger side of the Lexus as it spun around in the eastbound lane.

Gold was airlifted to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs where he later died. No other injuries were reported in the wreck.

The report notes road conditions were clear and dry but the wreck occurred in a construction zone.
