A Little Rock man who allegedly filled out a credit card application in his own name after using stolen credit cards at a Hot Springs store last year was arrested on felony and misdemeanor warrants Wednesday
Justin Michael Morgan, 37, who was in custody in southwest Arkansas on unrelated charges, was brought back to Hot Springs around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for three felony counts of theft by receiving of a credit card, punishable by up to six years in prison, and four misdemeanor counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, punishable by up to one year in jail.
Morgan remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $11,500 bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Feb. 8, 2017, a local woman reported the theft of her wallet containing three credit cards. Later that same day, the cards were used twice at Walmart, for purchases of $400 and $277, at Best Buy for a purchase of $218, and at Dick's Sporting Goods for $47, a total of more than $442.
Hot Springs police detectives reviewed security video at all three store locations which showed an unknown white male using the cards. While the suspect was at Best Buy, he was reportedly asked if he wanted to apply for a Best Buy credit card and did so, filling out the application in the name of Justin Morgan with all his information.
Detectives obtained a copy of Morgan's driver's license photo and confirmed he matched the person seen in all three videos using the stolen credit cards. A warrant for Morgan's arrest was issued March 22, 2017.
