FL Alumni Association award 13 scholarships

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- The Fountain Lake Alumni Association awarded $12,700 in scholarships to 13 graduates from the 2018 class at Fountain Lake High School.

This is the 12th year that the alumni association has awarded scholarships, bringing the total amount awarded to $104,400.

Jessa Goodeaux was awarded the $1,000 W.L. and Virginia Garner Memorial Scholarship to attend Mississippi State University to study animal science and pre-veterinary medicine.

A special $1,000 scholarship was generated by the Fountain Lake elementary students. Madison Thompson was awarded the $1,000 Fountain Lake Elementary Legacy Scholarship to attend Arkansas State University to study music education with an emphasis in vocal performance.

A second special $1,000 scholarship was raised by the Fountain Lake High School faculty and elementary students. Johnathan Edwards was awarded the $1,000 Fountain Lake High School/Fountain Lake Elementary Legacy Scholarship to attend Henderson State University to study music education.

Seven $1,000 scholarships were awarded from past graduated classes. Recipients, their future schools and areas of study are: Tylor Rea-Garibay, Class of 1956, University of Arkansas, biology; Rachel Golden, Class of 1956, Arkansas State University, engineering; Lauren Terry, Class of 1964, University of Arkansas, psychology and pre-medicine; Brandon Turnbull, Arkansas State University, political science; Chloe Chapman, Classes 1957, 1958, 1959, 1981, University of Central Arkansas, biochemistry; Cody Tigue, Class of 1975 Eddy Nichols Memorial Scholarship and Class of 1966, University of Central Arkansas, film and video; and Ethan Westerman, Class of 1982, University of Arkansas, business marketing.

Three other $900 scholarships were awarded from past classes. Recipients, their future schools and areas of study are: Haley Riggs, Classes of 1952, 1953, 1954, University of Central Arkansas, pre-veterinary medicine; Mark Knappier, Classes of 1963 and 1965, Oklahoma Christian University, music education; and Jamie Hefley, Classes of 1962 and 1987, University of Central Arkansas, nursing.
