The Traditional Art Guild of Hot Springs met on May 17 at the Garland County Library and hosted Ovita Goolsby, a well-known portrait artist and teacher in central Arkansas.

Goolsby, with over three decades of experience, spent an hour sharing stories and tips as she demonstrated how to paint a set of realistic human eyes. Goolsby is known for her commissioned portrait of former Gov. Mike Beebe, which was installed in the Arkansas state Capitol in 2014. She is an art teacher at National Park College, with classes in the fall via continuing education.

The Traditional Art Guild's 13th Annual Juried Exhibit is this summer. The group's artwork will grace the walls of the Garland County Library from July 15 to Aug. 15.

TAG membership is open to all art lovers and artists. No art experience necessary. The guild's regular meetings at the library will resume on Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. Members have decided to meet informally at the Whittington Gallery and Studios during the three months of their summer break.
