Convention of States Arkansas to meet Saturday

The Convention of States Arkansas team will hold a forum at the Courtyard by Marriot, 200 Marriot Court, in Hot Springs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Guest speakers include Arkansas Sen. Gary Stubblefield, R-District 6, and Arkansas Convention of States Director Randy Alexander.

"Discussion topics will focus on the COS resolution and how Article V can help 'we the people' permanently drain the swamp. This event is free to the public, but seating is limited," a news release said.

"A lot of people believe the federal government has lost touch with the citizens -- and they are right. Just look at the meteoric rise of America's federal debt and not a single discussion of cutting costs, waste, fraud or abuse," Alexander said in the release.

"Federal officials try to explain that the budget cannot be balanced, but I reject that because Arkansas has a balanced-budget amendment in the state," Alexander said. "If Arkansas can manage to fund essential services and not go into debt, we expect the federal government to do the same."

The Convention of States is "committed to stopping the federal government's abuse of power, including overspending without reining in debt, waste fraud and abuse," the release said.
