4-H clubs seek new members

The Garland County 4-H clubs are seeking new members. The purpose of these clubs is to give the youths of Garland County, ages 5 to 19, an opportunity to participate in youth development educational programs of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.

Youth members in 4-H clubs will learn life service projects and have an opportunity to compete in a number of competitive activities throughout the year, attend camps and earn scholarships for education. The following is a list of the current Garland County 4-H clubs, and the location and times they meet each month:

• Barnyard Clovers, first Monday at Jessieville School Cafeteria, Fountain Lake/Jessieville area, leaders: Betsy Breshears and Lacie Wiley.

• Clever Clovers, reorganizing in the Hot Springs area, leader: Annette Walters.

• Cool Clovers, third Monday at Center Fork Baptist Church, Lake Hamilton area, leader: Lisa Driggers.

• Creative Clovers, second Friday, location varies monthly, home school group, leader: Tonya Reck.

• Garland Gunners, seasonal, contact Extension Office for details, shooting sports club, ages 9-19, leader: Todd Orr.

• Garland County Veterinary Science, last Thursday of month at Extension Office, ages 13-19, leader: Linda Bates.

• Hot Springs Schools 4-H, in-school club, meets during school hours, Hot Springs Junior Academy, leader: Aspen Ham.

• Teen Leaders, last Monday each month, Extension Office, ages 13-19, leader: Linda Bates.

• Pinewood Clovers, second Monday in Mountain Pine School Cafeteria, Mountain Pine community, leader: Michael Palmer.

• Spa City Clovers, formerly known as Crimson Clovers, first Tuesday at the Garland County Fairgrounds, Lakeside/Cutter Morning Star area, leader: Kate Messersmith.

Membership in the 4-H clubs and programs is available to all youths 5 to 19. Master Gardener

Master Gardener meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Elks Lodge, 132 Abbott Place. They are open to the public. For information, call the Extension Office or email Allen Bates at [email protected].
