Rams defend home court in three straight

Lakeside rolled to its second win in two days Tuesday with a three-set victory against visiting Hot Springs at the Lakeside Athletic Complex.

The Rams (15-7, 6-1 5A-South) lost their first set on Monday against Pulaski Academy (11-5-1, 5-1 4a-Central) before reeling off three straight sets against the Bruins. They fended off the Lady Trojans (4-7, 2-5) on Tuesday, 25-12 25-13 25-15.

"We battled hard," said Hot Springs head coach Deana Franklin. "The intensity was much better than it has been. We are battling for probably fourth place (in conference), so every point we score is important to us."

Stineman concluded the match with nine digs, two assists and two aced service points. Junior Claire Monte added two aced serves, eight kills, two digs and one block assist.

"I think we really played hard the first game, but I have to give it to Hot Springs. They dug some bullets," said Lakeside head coach Rhonda Thigpen. "They were hustling all over the court and when a team like that is playing that hard, you can't overlook anybody."

Senior Lyca Steelman tallied five digs, two kills and a pair of aces. Sophomore Adachi Igbokidi dominated the net as middle back with 10 kills and two blocks.

Junior setter Olivia Lawrence paced the Rams with 17 assists, six aced service points, two digs, three kills and one block assist. Senior Meghan Fuller-Freeman had nine kills, one ace and one assist. Daelynn White ended the night with four digs.

"Their intensity was better than ours in game two and three. I thought we missed too many serves, and I thought they took advantage of that," noted Thigpen. "I think it's all about intensity. Don't overlook anybody, play every game like it might be your last game and play hard."

Hot Springs junior Iona Island tallied six digs, four assists and three kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Jaylia Reed led the Trojans with 12 digs. Senior Xavia McCoy followed closely behind collecting a total of 11 receptions, adding two kills and one assist.

Reed had two assists and one ace. Sophomore setter Emma Campas tallied eight assists, two kills, three digs and one ace.

Sophomore Jurnee Hicks collected five digs, one assist and two kills. Senior middle back Breunna Collins added four digs and one assist.

"It could come down to a tiebreaker and come down to points, so we've got the mind set that every point has got to matter," added Franklin. "If it's 24-0, we still have to battle for that one point. They don't quit ... like I said, our philosophy is battle for every point. Every point counts and they're going to battle you until the bitter end."

Senior outside hitter Jamie Broadway had two kills and three digs, respectively. Sophomore Katyra Johnson concluded the match with four digs and one kill.

Lakeside is scheduled to host El Dorado (2-8, 1-6) today. Hot Springs (4-7, 2-5) is scheduled for a road match at J.A. Fair (0-9, 0-7).
