Senior high basketball teams teams begin postseason play

District basketball tournaments tip off today for classes 1A-4A after the regular season concluded Friday.

Senior high teams in classes 1A-4A will compete in district tournaments this week to qualify for regional tournaments next week and state tournaments the following week. Classes 5A and 6A do not feature postseason tournaments, other than the state tournaments, in the latest reclassification by the Arkansas Activities Association.

The girls' teams for Jessieville (13-13, 5-9) and Fountain Lake (5-22, 0-14) will tip off today at 4 p.m. to open the 3A-4 district tournament at Two Rivers in Ola. The Lady Lions are the No. 5 seed and the Lady Cobras are the No. 8 seed.

The winner will advance to the second round to face fourth-seeded Paris (18-9, 8-6) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will earn a berth into the 3A-2 regional tournament and a semifinal matchup with the No. 1 seed, Two Rivers (21-6, 13-1), at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The championship game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Jessieville's boys (19-7, 10-4) earned a first-round bye as the No. 3 seed. The Lions will play in the second round on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. against the winner of tonight's game between sixth seed Atkins (7-16, 3-11) and seventh seed Lamar (10-17, 3-11).

Fountain Lake (22-5, 11-3) enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed with two byes into the semifinals and an automatic berth to the regional tournament. The Cobras will await Tuesday night's winner for a 7:45 p.m. game on Wednesday. The boys' championship game is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.

The AAA received no bids for the 3A-2 regional tournament. Perryville was later announced as the host.

The other half of the 3A-2 region comes from the 3A-5 conference with Baptist Prep, Central Arkansas Christian, Episcopal Collegiate, Glen Rose, Haskell Harmony Grove, Jacksonville Lighthouse, Lisa Academy and Mayflower.

Bismarck's boys (5-19, 2-10) and Fouke (6-16, 2-10) are the bottom two seeds in the 3A-7 district tournament, which will be held at Centerpoint. Their opening-round game is scheduled for 6:20 p.m. today.

The winner will meet third seed Prescott (15-4, 9-3) at 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday for a spot in the semifinals against second seed Centerpoint (12-9, 9-3) at 8 p.m. on Thursday and a berth to the 3A-4 regional tournament at Prescott. The boys' final is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Bismarck (8-16, 4-8) is the No. 5 seed in the girls' bracket. The Lady Lions are matched up on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. with fourth seed Prescott (9-14, 6-6). The winner will advance to regionals and a 4 p.m. semifinal game on Thursday against top-seeded Ashdown (14-10, 10-2).

Centerpoint (12-9, 9-3) has a bye into the semifinals and spot at regional. The Lady Knights will await Genoa Central (4-24, 0-12), Smackover (10-16, 4-8) or Fouke (20-5, 9-3) on Thursday at 6:40 p.m. The girls' final is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday.

On the other half of the 3A-4 region is the 3A-8 conference with DeWitt, Drew Central, Dumas, Helena-West Helena, Lake Village, McGehee, Pine Bluff Dollarway and Rison.

The Class 3A state tournament will be held at Osceola.

The girls' team for Mountain Pine (4-24, 4-12) will also open play today at 7:30 p.m. as the seventh seed in the 1A-7 district tournament at Kirby. The Lady Red Devils are matched up in the first round with the No. 6 seed, Mineral Springs.

The winners on Mountain Pine's half of the bracket will meet No. 3 Blevins (23-8, 12-4) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and No. 2 Caddo Hills (24-8, 13-3) on Thursday at 4 p.m. The girls' final is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Mountain Pine's boys (17-12, 12-4) earned two byes into the semifinals and an automatic berth into the 1A-4 regional tournament at Bradley. The second-seeded Red Devils will play Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Kirby.

Also on their side of the bracket are seventh seed Mineral Springs (6-13, 5-11), sixth seed Trinity Christian (13-16, 7-9) and third seed Ouachita (23-10, 12-4). The boys' final is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The other half of the 1A-4 region comes from the 1A-8 conference with Bradley, Dermott, Emerson, Hermitage, Nevada County, Strong and Taylor.

The Class 1A state tournament will be held at Izard County.

Cutter Morning Star's girls (7-16, 4-10) are the sixth seed in the 2A-5 South district tournament in Carlisle. The Lady Eagles will face the seventh seed, Maumelle Charter (5-21, 1-13), in the first round today at 7 p.m.

No. 3 seeded England (22-7, 11-3) will await the winner on Tuesday in the second round at 7 p.m. The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to a 7 p.m. semifinal game on Thursday against No. 2 Poyen (18-6, 11-3).

Magnet Cove (12-15, 6-8) is the No. 5 seed. The Lady Panthers open the tournament today at 4 p.m. against the No. 8 seed, Hazen (1-15, 1-13).

Today's winner will meet fourth seed Carlisle (16-9, 8-6) in the second round on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Top-seeded Bigelow (25-2, 14-0) awaits in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The girls' final is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday. All four semifinalists will qualify for the 2A-Central regional tournament at Quitman.

The boys' team for Cutter Morning Star (15-8, 10-4) earned the No. 2 seed, byes into the district semifinals and a berth to the regional tournaments. The Eagles await their opponents from seventh seed Hazen (5-14, 2-12), sixth seed Poyen (9-14, 4-10) or third seed Bigelow (18-9, 9-5) at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. The boys' final is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday

Magnet Cove (16-11, 9-5) earned a bye into the second round as the No. 4 seed. The Eagles are scheduled to play on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of today's game between the No. 5 and 8 seeds, Maumelle Charter (16-14, 8-6) and Carlisle (2-21, 1-13).

The 2A-5 North conference makes up the other half of the 2A-Central region. The conference's teams are Conway Christian, Des Arc, Nemo Vista, Pangburn, Quitman, Southside-Bee Branch, St. Joseph and White County Central.

Mount Ida (9-16, 7-7) earned a first-round bye as the No. 4 seed in the boys' bracket of the 2A-7 district this week at Horatio. The Lions will play on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of tonight's game between fifth seed Cossatot River (9-19, 6-8) and eighth seed Murfreesboro (2-20, 2-12).

The winner from Tuesday's game will clinch a spot in the 2A-South regional at Junction City and a semifinal matchup on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against No. 1 seed Dierks (19-13, 13-1). The boys' final is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.

The girls' team for Mount Ida (16-9, 10-4) received two byes and a spot at regionals as the 2A-7's No. 2 seed. The Lady Lions will play in the semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m. against seventh seed Horatio (8-17, 3-11), sixth seed Gurdon (8-14, 5-9) or third seed Murfreesboro (14-11, 10-4). The girls' final is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The 2A-8 conference in the other half of the 2A-South region includes Bearden, Camden Harmony Grove, Fordyce, Hampton, Junction City, Lafayette County, Parkers Chapel, Spring Hill and Woodlawn.

The Class 2A state tournament will be held at Carlisle.

Arkadelphia (6-17, 3-9) will open the 4A-7 district tournament today at Mena as the No. 6 seed in the girls' bracket. The Lady Badgers will tip off at 4 p.m. against seventh-seeded Hope (1-15, 0-12).

Today's winner will play again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against the No. 3 seed, Bauxite (19-8, 8-4). Second-seeded Nashville (13-7, 8-4) has a bye into the semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Malvern (5-17, 4-8) is the fifth seed and will play Tuesday at 4 p.m. against fourth seed Mena (12-11, 7-5). The winner will qualify for the 4A-South regional tournament, which will also be held at Mena.

No. 1 seed De Queen (23-2, 12-0) will await the winner on Thursday in the semifinals at 7 p.m. The girls' third-place game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday with the championship game at 6 p.m.

Malvern (9-14, 6-6) is also seeded fifth in the boys' bracket with a 5:30 p.m. game on Tuesday against the fourth seed, Nashville (10-9, 6-6). The winner will qualify for regionals and meet the No. 1 seed, Mena (19-6, 10-2) in the semifinals on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

Second seed Arkadelphia (10-8, 8-4) has a bye into the semifinals and an automatic berth into the regionals. The Badgers will play at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday against De Queen (3-21, 0-12), Hope (8-14, 5-7) or Bauxite (14-12, 7-5).

Also in the 4A-South region is the 4A-8 conference, which includes Camden Fairview, Crossett, Hamburg, Magnolia, Monticello, Star City and Warren.

The Class 4A state tournament will be held at Magnolia.

Teams in the 5A-South conference will wrap league play on Feb. 19. The other three conferences in Class 5A are scheduled to end the regular season on Feb. 22 ahead of the state tournament, which will be hosted by Lake Hamilton at Wolf Arena in Pearcy.
