A local man sought on multiple warrants who allegedly fled from a traffic stop Wednesday was arrested by Hot Springs police after a brief manhunt by several officers.

Terry William Cross, 31, who lists a Boaz Street address, was taken into custody shortly before 2:30 p.m. and charged with fleeing on foot in addition to misdemeanor warrants for third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to one year in jail, failure to comply, two counts of failure to appear and violation of his probation.

Cross remained in custody Thursday on zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavits and reports, shortly before 2 p.m., Cross fled from a traffic stop into the area of Indiandale Apartments, 105 Lowery St., near the 1500 block of Malvern Avenue, prompting police to set up a perimeter around the area and began searching.

Officer 1st Class John McLean states that shortly after 2 p.m. he responded to the area between National Park Medical Center, 1910 Malvern, and Hot Springs Country Club regarding sightings of the suspect.

Upon arrival, several golfers at the country club were waving to officers, stating the suspect had just fled through the golf course toward NPMC. McLean said he ran up the embankment and spotted a man matching the description, later confirmed to be Cross, in the southern parking lot of the hospital.

McLean yelled, "Hey!," at him, but Cross allegedly fled through the lot headed north. McLean yelled at him again to stop and told him he was going to deploy his Taser if he didn't. Finally, Cross stopped in the middle of the parking lot and was taken into custody without further incident.

According to the affidavit on the battery charge, on Oct. 8, 2018, shortly before 4 p.m., Officer 1st Class Brent Scrimshire responded to the 300 block of Cash Street regarding a battery and upon arrival made contact with the female victim, who was standing in the woods and crying.

She stated that about 15 minutes earlier she was assaulted by her boyfriend, identified as Cross, in that same area. She said she and Cross were in a gold 2003 Chevrolet Malibu and Cross was driving even though he was "extremely high" and was angry about missing his appointment with his probation officer.

She said he became agitated and she feared for her safety, but Cross refused to let her drive. She said they were struggling over the keys when Cross stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Cash and Black streets.

She said Cross pulled her out of the vehicle and dragged her through the woods, causing her to become entangled in some vines, before he finally fled and left her there. Scrimshire noted the victim had a bloody cut at the front of her throat and scratches to both her arms. A warrant was later issued for Cross' arrest.

Abraham Chiam Laxson, 44, of 130 Carlton Terrace, was taken into custody at his residence shortly before 9 a.m. and charged with a felony count of residential burglary, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of second-degree terroristic threatening and disorderly conduct.

Laxson remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $6,500 bond and is set to appear today in district court.

According to the affidavit, around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a reported burglary in the 100 block of Carlton Terrace and spoke to a male resident who said he had just returned home after dropping off his daughter at school and found three frozen pizzas, a block of cheese and an 18-pack of beer from his refrigerator placed near his front door. Some of the beer had been consumed.

He said he went to check on his girlfriend when he heard a noise coming from his daughter's bedroom. He went to investigate and discovered his neighbor, identified as Laxson, exiting the bedroom wearing only his underwear. He asked him, "What are you doing inside my house?" and Laxson allegedly responded, "I will (expletive) you up. I am not your (expletive) anymore!"

The victim said Laxson then exited his house and walked back to his residence. Officers made contact with Laxson at his residence and he reportedly admitted to being inside the victim's house. He was taken into custody and while officers were walking him to their unit, Laxson reportedly began screaming obscenities "within hearing distance of two trash workers."

Laxson was transported to the jail without further incident.
