Sheriff's reserve unit

lists December hours

Garland County Sheriff's Reserve Capt. Hank Nowak reports that reserve deputies worked a total of 501 hours in December, including 234 hours in the patrol division, responding to 19 calls and taking three reports.

"The highlight of the month was when they covered a shift while the regular deputies attended the annual sheriff's office Christmas party," Nowak said, noting reserve deputies fielded six two-man cars over the 13-hour period from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. early one weekend.

"Four deputies also put in time at the detention centers, three at adult, one at juvenile," Nowak said.

The unit, which is comprised of unpaid volunteers, provides support to the sheriff's department's different divisions throughout the year. Anyone interested in applying for the reserves can apply online at http://wwwgarlandcountysheriff.com or pick up an application at the department at 525 Ouachita Ave.
